2010 was a good year for Coach House Sounds. Besides having released about a session per week, we've received some nice press (most recently in NewCity by David Wicik, read here), promoted many shows around town, and have a lot more in the works for 2011. Thanks to everyone for their continued support, we look forward to sharing much more in the new year...

Thanks to Erik Roldan and the rest of the folks at CHIRP for launching a wonderful new partnership between us and them today. It's been months in the making, and it feels good to have it be official! Stay tuned for interviews and session previews from select CHS sessions!

CHS is busy programming some nice show this fall... Our next one is October 5 at the Whistler. It's to celebrate our 2nd year with having an actual website. Zelionople and the Jeff Kowalkowski Trio are playing. Some of our kind sponsors: Drag City, Busy Beaver Button Co., Whistler Records, Contraphonic, Addenda Records, TimeOut Chicago, and more.

We've been recording bands pretty much non-stop for the past few weeks and are taking a brief summer break (less one more acoustic recording this week with John Bellows). Sessions will still be posted, but our mics and tape machine are getting some much deserved R&R. We'll be back in full swing by late July, with two sessions scheduled the day of our next Schubas show. Learn all about it here.

My good pal Gene gave me five copies of his movie magazine called The Molten Rectangle. Each issue has three short films, which he refers to as Victorvision Shorts. Pick up a copy from the Coach House Sounds merch chair next time you're in the neighborhood, email me for a copy, or get one directly from Gene. It's $10 well spent, it will take you at least 24 hours to get through all the content in the issue...

Other than the admin side of our new website acting fickle today, I'm loving the process of building the band pages now. In the past, Doug and Neal would have to spend hours building the cumbersome .JPEG pages, and if there was a minor change to be made, I'd have to bug them to fix it (a minor tweak or grammatical change could end up taking them over an hour...). The fact that I can do anything web-design related whatsoever is a miracle in itself, and I'm glad to lighten the burden of Doug and Neal, who engineer and photograph all the sessions. We'll be busy the next couple of months, recording a bunch of bands from Chicago and from out of state as well. We'll all be at Schubas this Saturday night, so come by the merch table and say hello if you're so inclined...

We have a new website. Obviously. We hope you enjoy this one as much if not more than the other one we had. Same basic idea. Listen to great music from local and touring bands that were recorded to 1/4" analog tape. We just organize everything a little different. Also welcome Mike Mayer to the team. He is our video guy. We also will be releasing podcasts of the sessions. As well as slowly releasing podcasts of previous sessions. So thanks for everyone who has given CHS support. Especially all the bands that have played for us. I'm really lucky to have recorded so many talented people in such a short time period. And also lucky that so many people understood what we were trying to do. Some even before we understood what we were trying to do. Peace.
