Doug does live sound at various venues in Chicago. Occasionally he throws me a tip about a band he likes and thinks should come in for a session. Doug is mostly soft-spoken and laid back, but was adamant and excited about having Julie Meckler in for a session; so he gave me her cd and I took it seriously per Doug's fervent endoresement. "Mexico" was the first track on her demo, and it hit me right away. She and her band aren't reinventing the wheel, but the songs are uniquely their own and Julie's voice is like a dagger in the best sense of the word. I requested that she sing a song in French and she obliged. This track serves as the opening one and should hit you how her demo version of "Mexico" did for me on my car stereo a few months back...
