After a much-needed lunch break, Doug, Neal, and I returned to the Coach House to find Matt in the middle of some of the most impressively controlled chaos I've seen during a load-in since my stage crew days. And this didn't involve stage assembly or lighting trusses. Two full sets of drums, a galaxy of different-sized samplers and pedals, cables, guitars, amps, percussion, it was an intimidating trailer full of equipment all in our little recording space. And yet, with the grace and precision of a drill team, all the pieces of the puzzle came together perfectly for an amazing session. Doug and I didn't even have to tell anyone where to stand! And that's how A Lull's epic, chaotic sound works out. The relentless rhythm underpinning the layers upon layers of diverse sounds all seems like it should be impossible, but it comes together perfectly.
